First attempt at a rendering, help!

So this is my first attempt at rendering in Kerkythea, let me know what I need to do better please! this is just a quick render in setting 3 as a test.

Update: now i'm trying to render again and those shadows on the walls are not coming up, is this a problem with what i'm doing in kerkythea or in sketchup?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Where is the render you are talking about? Perhaps you forgot to attach the image.

However, I will strongly advise you to go through the kerkythea Getting started tutorial in detail first, before starting any of your render at random.
That will help you a lot.

Good luck.

Well, for a 1st attempt, its quite good.
However, there are a lots of area you can improve on.

1st, better material application. The floor wood and brick wall mainly looks odd in that scene. Apply some cool jpeg texture instead of default sketchup textures there.

2nd, enable soft shadow for the sun. Increase the sun radius to 100 while doing so.

3rd, in the post production, inserting humans in a scene full of sunlight, and not creating separately the shadows of those humans is kind of crime. Just dont insert them if you dont quite know how to create shadows of those in photoshop.

In fact, looking closely, I see the humans have existing shadows while inserting, but which are completely not in sync with your present sun position.
Thats a bigger crime.

Ideally, you will need to insert the humans only, without shadows 1st. And separately create their shadows in line with current sun position. All in photoshop.

http://www.arroway-textures.com/

these guys have a great range of materials, and they provide a free low resolution of all of them with bump maps and specular, I use the free textures all the time and not a client nor colleague has ever commented on the res,

you can also try cgtextures but I don't really rate them that highly for seamless texures, gobotree and immediateentourage are good for PS inserts
