|
|
It was a long year of hard work and advances. Some people have spotted a delay in Kerkythea updates and indeed there was a reason. Our primary focus has been shifted towards the creation of a new renderer, entering the commercial arena. The name of the new renderer is - for simplicity - the same as the commercial engine that runs behind Kerkythea.
So, what is it with Thea Render? We believe that it belongs to a different class regarding quality, versatility and easy of use. This is a new renderer incorporating state of the art features with a lot of work and research behind it. For further discussion on the new renderer, we welcome users in our related announcement over Thea Render forum (requires registration to post or read).
And what about Kerkythea itself? We certainly won't abandon Kerkythea, our "render buddy". Most probably though, the shift in priorities will have an impact for the next updates, delaying them further. On the other hand, some related Kerkythea issues will be improved, particularly the integration with modelers (since exporters can be reused). And of course, there will be some long-promised features, that now make their appearance in Thea Render, but will also become available in a next Kerkythea edition.
Furthermore, we would like to reward the people that contributed to Kerkythea with the one or the other way (commitment, donations, hard work) as a minimal token of our appreciation and ask for their understanding for the shift of priorities.
We thank you for your continuous support and welcome you in both of our render communities.
best regards

I`m reading the anouncement
"Our primary focus has been shifted towards the creation of a new renderer, entering the commercial arena"
and this means to me - first the commercial side - and long after this a little for KT ..............
i think this will be the way - which is fully understandable bec. most freeware worked this way - and a while after this - Autodesk buys everything.
Is this so wrong |

hi Mocki010,
Frankly, it was hard for me as well to make that decision. I know that a lot of Kerkythea fans may get dissapointed. Nevertheless, it was also getting extremely difficult updating Kerkythea without total commitment.
I can understand the feeling. Although, we will try our best to keep Kerkythea in shape with updates. And hopefully the community will continue to flourish here, Kerkythea was and is more than just a renderer.
best wishes

Just to be more solid (and less sentimental) and to avoid any misunderstandings, I have to repeat here that Kerkythea will get important updates, and will not get abandoned. Working in parallel for a commercial renderer is not the end of Kerkythea!
best wishes

Thumbs up !
I can't wait to be able to try your new TheaRender.
I can imagine my wife when she gets info about your new, better renderer... She will surely force me to buy her a license, as she uses KT every day in her work and she is very pleased.
So, carry on mates. |

Call for beta testers / artists / exporter developers - May
Start of beta testing - June
Start of sales at an introductory price - July/August
Release of Thea Render - September
We have already settled at a very affordable price for the new renderer which will be announced soon, along with a list of features. |

Frederik just got me. But if possible, please ask any questions about the new renderer in its own forum.
Vitos, we also believe that if someone likes Kerkythea interface, then she is going to love the new one.

Giannis, I am very happy to read this! I am sure you will do great work as with Kerkythea... You have a lot of KT fans here and if it is possible try not to dissapoint them...
But, I must say that you really deserve to get paid for such a great product as Thea Render is going to be!
My best wishes... _________________ I don't think I will ever write something clever here....Revit Architecture 2010, AutoCAD 2010, MoI3d, 3dsMAX Design 2010, Maxwell, Kerkythea and lots of working hours...! |

IMHO, i think it's a logical and very well deservered decission.
It's about time the KT team gets some reward for their hard work.
If you want a free renderer competing with the big boys, use KT.
If you want a renderer beating the big boys, use T. _________________ ADM phenomII 955 be (OC to 3800) 4 gb DDR3,
