whell, first my apollogize for don't reply this post before, but thanks Frederik for your answer that confort me.
......now, you answered to jambak:
"Thea materials are much more complex, but made easy to make in Thea."
That is very nice to know, even when the material editor in KT is very powerfull in comparission to another programs. (....So I think in TR will be more powerfull even.....)
PD sorry for my english |

Hi Giannis and all!!
Long time no talk but it's always a pleasure to come back home!
I just came back here on the KT site after a loooong time and noticed a lot of beautiful images both in the gallery and in the forum.
And here go the obvious but fully deserved thumbs up to the whole KT dev crew and community.
So I wondered 'hey, let's give KT a fresh update' and went to the download page, only to find out that the latest version released still dates back to oct 2008.
Then I navigated further and probably found out the reason: I realized that KT (or better yet Thea) is going commercial.
Don't get me wrong, I fully understand this decision, I'm not discussing it: why shouldn't you raise money from such a professional piece of software and from such a huge amount of time and knowledge spent on it?
My only fear (and yes, sorrow) is that while I do believe that KT will of course always remain the great renderer that I know today, I also believe that it will necessarily get less and less attention by its developers in the future (well, the 10-month-old latest release seems to confirm my impression...).
And in my opinion that's too bad for such a beautiful, free gem...
This is what I wanted to tell you, as an early KT user and lover
Anyway, I really do hope to be wrong and I wish you all the best with your new project!!!
Ciao ciao,
Piero |

Most probably though, the shift in priorities will have an impact for the next updates, delaying them further. On the other hand, some related Kerkythea issues will be improved, particularly the integration with modelers (since exporters can be reused). And of course, there will be some long-promised features, that now make their appearance in Thea Render, but will also become available in a next Kerkythea edition...

Don't fear Piero, KT will be developed. But at the moment priority is on Thea. Faster it's on market sooner Giannis can return to KT development. |

hi Piero,
actually for me it was a decision to turn over (partially) to commercial side or nothing. We came to a point that further development required more and more resources and working full time on it. Obviously, with a full time job equally demanding, it would be hard to advance KT. So, the decision was actually taking the risk; quiting everyday job and putting all effort in rendering since around 18 months now.
I know it is not easy for KT community to see this as a step forward. It is not pleasant for us either, since KT forums have been evolved to an area of extended discussion & help, beyond a simple freeware program.
The KT edition updates were anyway once every year. So, in KT terms latest edition, is not that old. And I am quite definite you will see some good editions coming out in the near future.
best wishes

Hi Giannis!
I am very thankful for whatever you have given so far - they have been and still are wonderful. I got a renewed interest in rendering when KT 2007 came out and was inspired by the renders of other co-members of the forum, which I am again thankful for that.
Thank you once again for your wonderful work.
With best regards

Hi Giannis,
Will you be needing beta testers for Thea?

Thank you for your nice words and encouragement.
As you know, we are already receiving applications from beta testers and this will continue for a small period of time prior to actually starting bete phase.
Please visit Thea Render site/forum for more information.
best wishes
