I will prepare a small doc containing a timeline and milestones. Not much at the beginning, distance is always a problem.

Tomasz & Chris should work together for the plugin. I hope that we will have a prototype by the time Tomasz comes in Athens ;)

BTW: you all may already know this, but the documentation on the C++ SDK implies that an exporter from within SU is only available with SU Pro. I think you can still use it to do an external converter (or even an importer in KT maybe) without SU Pro.

I will only prepare a milestone page, nothing really worth much.

We have to "sit" together, to see which are the highest priority wishes so that we make a proper design of the app.

All we need in the next weeks is more a feasibility study, something that will show the proper way to do this by programming.

ok... crazy past many weeks here for me, sorry guys... unending computer probs at home have plagued me.

I finally have a moment to answer properly Avariant's question of what we'd like to see. SORRY IF IT'S TOO LONG

well, simply, imagine if you could have KT inside your modeler of choice - I think you use Wings3D...

:?: now how would you like to see KT INSIDE WINGS3D? That's what we need for SU :!:

- on top of this, we need many pre-made architecturally useful materials (Mental Ray now has this fully integrated with Revit 2009 and it's incredibly powerful and QUICK AND EASY to use!)

What's more, we could really use Meridian's power for SU... SU's current native interactive UV mapping/material positioning built-in is very easy and powerful to use, but they only have flat uv mapping... so

- an ability to use cylindrical and spherical mapping or mapping on blob-shaped objects is necessary and the meridian procedurals would be SO powerful ;)

is what I'm looking for for SketchYthea. Only without Revit's limitations. They apparently 'gutted' mental ray to port it to Revit... so it only uses 2 threads, doesn't have complex UV mapping, no net rendering, no light caching, and I will make a list of more as I get them... (I should be rendering in Mental Ray in Revit in less than 2 mths.) see in the dev. forum for a review.

-multithreading

-so we need light caching in the beginning... more 'apparent' and Su-style user-friendly accessible.

In the future - ideally - texture baking, and certainly
- net rendering.

-We MUST be able to render animations from SU's cams. This is NOT optional.

It would be interesting if SketchYthea (SY for short) would bring in 'modules' of KT depending on what's needed... the render module, the material module, the animation module, the lighting module... maybe not, but I thought this may speed the loading... it only opens what you need.

SY needs a
- SU-user-starter-level (Basic) material editor, and
- an 'Advanced' material editor.
- Baisc rendering window (KT's presets - no tweaking except maybe simple production AA choices with descriptions, like:
1 (spatial edges only)
.5 (quick preview AA)
.3 (final quality AA)
KT's render presets alone would be cool because you cannot render alpha masks in SU alone... but KT would give you ability to render alphas for a selected object 8) people would buy it JUST FOR THAT ALONE!!!!
- Advanced rendering settings window (SU-useer-friendly)
- basic animation choices
- advanced animation rendering choices.

- Render orthographic and
- render SketchUP SECTIONS/SECTION-PERSPECTIVES

It needs IES implementation... we need to put together a set of SU models in a component package (Jon Westwood could create this and sell it himself in conjunction with the release!)

I understand a lot of lighting and furniture manufacturers are scrambling to get their products (already with IES info in the case of lighting fixtures) out in packages for Revit content... now those models could easily be converted to fbx file format packages, and imported to SU (someone will write an fbx importer for SU or SU7 will read it.) Or KTPro could read the FBX files (Giannis says it will).

and we need to be able to bring in and render ... this is very well implemented/integrated in Revit 2009!

overwhelming amount of work :!: ... so would suggest small steps... get KT to render inside SU and render using JUST KT'S PRESETS.
